Waste management contractor implements bin weighing and ID technology

Moba, a provider of machine automation systems, has begun fitting its bin weighing and ID technology to Fortress Recycling and Resource Management’s new fleet of Heil waste trucks, which will enable the waste management company to implement a Pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) scheme.

This will be the first time that Heil’s new fully-automatic front-loading technology, developed together with Moba, will be available in the UK and means that the bin can be lifted and weighed without any interaction from the driver, speeding up operations and enabling more collections per day. Moba has also integrated its MAWIS technology into the AMCS IT management system that will transmit real-time data back to Fortress’ back office enabling the company to enhance its operational efficiency generate invoicing for the waste collected.

David Pass, Managing Director for Fortress said: ‘There is now a growing groundswell of support amongst our customer base for the move to a pay-as-you-throw charging method, as they can see that this will not only help them reduce their waste costs over time but will also greatly increase their recycling rates.’

Fortress also believes that PAYT will be crucial to the success of the waste management industry. The management data it provides brings into sharp focus those customers who regularly overfill their bins, and who are likely to be far less profitable than those who behave more responsibly.

‘We are now putting into in place the right vehicles, on-board technology and back-office systems to enable us to implement PAYT, which is why we have chosen to partner with companies such as MOBA whose reliability we trust in even in the most rigorous of situations,’ added David Pass.
